Drumhead Collage

Conversations with sometime collaborator Matt Hale led to thinking about linking music and drumming to art making.

I think originally Matt was talking about bringing performance or sound into my work in some way.

This is something I have not entirely ruled out but at the moment I am happy to to link these two aspects of my creative output but in a quiet way.

The drumheads are made from Mylar a type of robust plastic which can withstand a beating but over time they do need to be replaced especially the snare drum batter head. A other of these heads have been on my drum kit and usually when the time comes to replace them they are discarded and end up in landfill, they still might. :)

Initially I used the heads from my own kit and the sizes are 12,13,16,22 inches but I thought it would be fun to try and go to the extremes and find the smallest and largest heads which led to internet searches and trips to percussion shops were I found 8 and 42 inch ones.

The collage is made from advertising hoarding material I have gleaned from the streets and a sympathetic printer and also from the collection of Mathew Freeth an old friend and fellow collage maker who had to clear a storage unit of material.
